About Lisabi Day

Lisabi Day is the annual commemoration of Lisabi Agbongbo Akala—the fearless warrior who liberated the Egba people. Join us in Abeokuta or online for style, substance, and soul.” Derived from Lisabi’s legacy as a liberator and the festival’s modern cultural relevance.

Olusegun Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo (born March 5, 1937, Abeokuta, Nigeria) is a Nigerian general, statesman, and diplomat, who was the first military ruler in Africa to hand over power to a civilian government. He served as Nigeria’s military ruler (1976–79) and, as a civilian, as president (1999–2007).

Sir Adetokunbo Ademola

Sir Adetokunbo Ademola became the first indigenous Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1958, succeeding Sir Stafford Foster-Sutton. He held the office until 1972, guiding the judiciary through the country’s transition from colonial rule to independence.

Wole Soyinka

Wole Soyinka (born July 13, 1934, Abeokuta, Nigeria) is a Nigerian playwright and political activist who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986. He was the first Black African to be awarded the prize and was cited by the Nobel Committee for his “vivid, often harrowing” works “marked by an evocative, poetically intensified diction.”
